“Sono quindici anni che me lo chiedono. Non so più cosa dire. Penso si sia trattato di una distorsione spazio-temporale, qualcosa sul tipo di Star Trek o roba simile.” (John McEnroe) – La causa intentata ai produttori del fan film Axanar è solo l’ennesimo esempio di quanto, talvolta, pavidità, miopia e avidità guidino oggi le scelte delle major hollywoodiane.
E’ chiaro fin da subito che, legalmente ed eticamente parlando, l’argomento non è materia banale e che sarà difficile assistere a un clamoroso ribaltamento della vicenda: l’annosa questione dei diritti d’autore ha certamente fondate motivazioni, pur rimanendo un vessillo del capitalismo più reazionario e, per tale ragioni, è un campo di battaglia dove difficilmente si arriverà a soluzioni diplomatiche.
Tuttavia, oggi, un eventuale pronunciamento a favore delle posizioni di Paramount e CBS si risolverà tristemente in quella che viene definita come una “vittoria di Pirro“, ovvero una sconfitta in termini di immagine, riconquista del pubblico, innovazione e posizionamento nel mercato.
Alla base di tutto, crediamo, ci sia la paura del cambiamento: il prossimo (e, visto i presupposti, molto probabilmente mediocre) film “Star Trek – Fast and Furious“, pensato per il solito pubblico di fan “decerebrati culturali”, rischia di divenire un clamoroso fallimento, trascinando nel baratro, non solo l’annunciata nuova serie televisiva, ma il nome stesso della ormai “cinquantennale” saga di Star Trek.
Che poi, a ben pensarci (ed è un paradosso che non ci spieghiamo) il fan film Axanar (che ricordiamo sarebbe stato distribuito gratuitamente) poteva essere un vero “cavallo di Troia” (e a costo zero) per fare breccia nelle mura delle fanta-saghe concorrenti (che stanno ormai saturando tutto lo spazio cinematografico, televisivo ed editoriale) e soprattutto nel cuore di nuove generazioni dei milioni di potenziali fan che “vivono la parte abitata della Rete” e che non conoscono “lo Star Trek dei loro padri”.
«Signori di Hollywood»– vorremmo poter dire – «c’è un intero universo, “la fuori”, ma l’omologazione dei contenuti, i vecchi schemi di pensiero che si fanno palesemente prigioni, la paura di rischiare, la mancanza di creatività che si sposa all’incapacità artistica di parlare all’anima stessa delle persone, non vi faranno uscire nemmeno dall’orbita bassa dove vi state relegando!»
E, come direbbe alzando un sopracciglio, un nostro comune amico: «Tutto ciò è altamente illogico».
Per tali ragioni – senza nessun fine di lucro, politico o di propaganda personale – la comunità di WebTrek Italia supporta il fan film Axanar.

The lawsuit filed by Paramount Pictures and CBS Television to the producers of Axanar fan film is just another example of how much timidity, short-sightedness and greed drive the choices of today’s Hollywood majors…
Let me be clear right from the start, legally and ethically speaking, the topic is not trivial matters, as well as it will be difficult to witness a dramatic reversal of the story: the old issue of copyright has certainly reasonable grounds – while remaining a banner of the most reactionary capitalism – and that’s why is a battlefield where a diplomatic solution is quite impossible.
However any court’s pronouncement in favor of the positions of Paramount and CBS would result only in what it is called a “Pyrrhic victory“, a defeat in terms of image, conquest of the audience, innovation and marketing positioning.
Underlying all is the fear of change, where the next (and, given the conditions, probably “mediocre”) films of “Star Trek – The Fast and the Furious“, designed for the usual audience of cultural mindless fan, will become a resounding failure, dragging with it into the abyss, not only the new announced TV series, but the same name of the now “fifty” saga of Star Trek.
Then (and it is a paradox that we do not explain) the Axanar fan film (remember that it would be distributed free of charge) could be a true “Trojan horse” (at no cost) to breach the walls of phantasy sagas competitors (who are now saturating the entire space film, television and publishing) and especially in the hearts of new generations of millions of potential fans who “live the inhabited part of the Network,” and that do not know “the Star Trek of their fathers.”
“Hollywood Gentlemen” – we would like to say – “there’s a whole universe, out there, but the trivialization of the content, the old patterns of thought that really are prisons – fear of risk, lack of creativity that blends artistic inability to speak to the soul of the same people – will not take you out of the low orbit! “
As would say a mutual friend (raising an eyebrow): “This is highly illogical“.
And for all these reasons – no absolutely profit, political or personal propaganda – the community of WebTrek Italia supports Axanar fan film.
